Sumayya Vally — In the Assembly of Lovers

Commissioned for the inaugural Art Basel Qatar in Msheireb Downtown Doha, Sumayya Vally’s 'In the Assembly of Lovers' reinterprets the traditional Arab majlis as a continuously shifting public gathering landscape connecting the M7 creative hub with the Doha Design District.

Conceived as an active, interactive gathering space, the installation features a field of bespoke modular seating elements designed to be reconfigured by visitors throughout the fair. Every element was engineered to support active crowd loads, endure continuous outdoor handling, and retain its finish through open-air exposure.

From technical development and structural prototyping to precision delivery, the project translated architectural philosophy into a robust, living public monument.
